2017 Tax Clinic Program most successful to date

Each year Alberta CPAs, candidates, and students cvolunteer to help low-income Albertans complete their tax returns free of charge. The CPA Alberta Tax Clinic Program holds clinics in Edmonton, Calgary and surrounding communities in co-operation with seniors’ homes, community centres, and other not-for-profit agencies. The 2017 clinics wrapped up last month, and this was the most successful year to date! Here are some highlights comparing this year’s numbers to last year’s:

  • 22% more organizations – 136
  • 22% more clinics – 286
  • 21% more volunteers – 525
  • 118% more students participating – 74
  • 30% more returns completed  – OVER 4,000!

The Tax Clinic program also allows volunteers to combine their philanthropic spirit with their competitive edge and join the 2017 CPA Alberta Tax Clinic Challenge. The challenge encourages CPAs from all employment sectors to compete with their fellow professionals to see who can attend the most clinics. The best part is the more attended equals the more help those in need received.
