The first-ever CPA Alberta Convocations are upon us! The first took place in Calgary on Saturday, May 28, marking a milestone not only for the profession but for the 270 Alberta graduates who passed the CPA Common Final Examination (CFE). The Edmonton Convocation will take place this Saturday, June 4, at the Shaw Convention Centre.
These historic moments are taking place as a part of Elevate 2016: Celebrating Progress and Achievement. Graduates crossing the stages become the first accountants in Alberta to use CPA as a standalone designation.
“This is truly a once in a lifetime accomplishment,” said Rachel Miller FCPA, FCA, CEO of CPA Alberta. “Not only have these graduates completed a crucial step towards obtaining their CPA designation but as the first class to pass the exam, they represent the bright future of the accounting profession.”
Caleb Hagemeister, of MNP Medicine Hat, was named the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) Regional Gold Medalist, marking the top performance on the CFE in the Western provinces. He is joined by four other individuals whose performances earned them spots on the National Honour Roll list. They are Sam Ferrey of Capital Power, Edmonton; James Loewen of Deloitte, Calgary; Derek Mosenko of MNP, Grande Prairie; and Brent Vandenbrink of Collins Barrow, Edmonton.
“Writing the first ever CFE was a monumental task and it took many hours of preparation,” said Caleb Hagemeister CPA. “It was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences. I would like to congratulate all of the successful writers of the 2015 CFE. Your hard work and dedication paid off.”
In addition to the graduates and their guests, members of the CPA Alberta Board, CPA Western School of Business Board, CPA Education Foundation Board, CPA Assist Board, CPA Canada Board, and Post-secondary institutions were all in attendance to celebrate this momentous achievement.
