It was with profound sorrow that CPA Alberta learned of the recent passing of Robert (Bob) Young FCPA, FCA. Over the course of his distinguished career, Bob became known across Canada as a brilliant accountant, a committed volunteer, and a humble man who was humourous, kind and genuine.
Bob had a career of more than 40 years with KPMG, during which he was awarded the firm’s inaugural WB Thomas Award, acknowledging his commitment to living the values of the firm. During his career, Bob established himself as one of the country’s leading experts on accounting standards, and he devoted a great deal of his time to sharing his knowledge throughout the profession. He lectured on standards at the University of Alberta and for CPA Alberta, and was a frequent speaker on standards and related topics at conferences in Canada and abroad.
For his many contributions to the profession and accounting education, Bob was honoured with CPA Alberta’s Lifetime Achievement Award in early 2019.
On behalf of all Alberta CPAs, CPA Alberta extends its deepest sympathies to Bob’s family and his wide network of friends and colleagues. Through his kindness, generosity and formidable intellect, Bob had a positive and lasting impact on an immeasurable number of people over the course of his life. His legacy of talent and dedication will live on for many generations to come.
