Free career-focused services for members

Finding a job is hard at any given time. Factor in an unstable economy and an unemployment rate of 7.4 per cent—the highest since 1996 according to the Alberta Economic Dashboard—and the challenge becomes greater. Even for the employed, promotions don’t come without difficulty. But it can be done; through hard work, training, networking, and occasionally, reaching out for help.

CPA Alberta is committed to helping members excel in their employment endeavours by providing a number of free career-focused services. By understanding the job market and where opportunities lie, learning tried and true strategies for networking and search, and picking up a few new skills, you can be well on your way to landing that new job.

CPA Alberta Job Board

Employment opportunities can seem few and far between in an economic downturn, but jobs do exist. All CPA Alberta members have free access to the Job Board, which not only includes the ability to view available positions but provides members with the enhanced feature of directly uploading their resumes, which are then reviewable by potential employers.

Career coaching

Looking for your next big opportunity? CPA Alberta offers several resources to help develop your accounting career. Register for a free Rapid Resume Review and meet one-on-one with recruiters for a 20-minute review, or speak directly to a CPA Career Advisor about job search strategies. CPA Alberta also partners with HR professionals who will conduct a 30-minute mock interview and provide you with 5-10 minutes of feedback.

Networking through the Mentorship or Connector programs

Individuals working in the oil and gas industry may be looking for work in other sectors. This can be difficult as their network may be limited beyond oil and gas. The Mentorship and Connector programs can help facilitate connections in non-energy sectors within Alberta. The programs offer varying levels of time commitments and accept participants in mentor and mentee roles with all levels of experience.

Keeping your skills fresh is not only a great way to way to spice up your resume, but it’s also a great way to make the most of downtime if you’ve been affected by job loss. CPA Alberta hosts free Brown Bag Lunch seminars, workshops and events that will provide you with new skills and allow you to earn some PD hours along the way.
