The Student Action Volunteer Initiative (SAVI) provides local not-for-profits (NFPs) with volunteer support from 3rd or 4th year Bachelor of Commerce accounting or technology students at the Haskayne School of Business. SAVI volunteers will support an NFP by assisting with routine tasks or special projects.
Accounting assignments may include making journal entries, preparing cheques, recording deposits, reconciling bank statements, entering budget amounts, preparing cash flow projections, and/or preparing financial statements using Sage Accounting, Quickbooks or a similar software program. Accounting student volunteers can suggest improvements to an NFP’s accounting practices, prepare reports and work on special projects.
Students can volunteer for 12 hours per month, from March to December or September to April. The NFPs will be responsible for providing student volunteers with meaningful work, guidance and support.
This is a unique program. It allows students to hone their skills while providing NFPs with critical support. This program is a collaboration between the Richard F. Haskayne OC FCA Chair of Accounting and the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business (CCAL).
