CPA Alberta was pleased to honour 40-, 50-, 60-, and, 70-year career milestones at the long-term service recognition events in Edmonton and Calgary throughout October. While all Alberta CPAs being recognized have shown a long-term commitment and loyalty to the profession, it was the attendance of 70-year member Ross Ferguson Phillips FCPA, FCA, in Calgary that brought the crowd to their feet.
Ross has had an extensive career in the profession, beginning on July 12, 1943, when he articled in Winnipeg with Miller Macdonald & Co. After writing the final examination, Ross was transferred to the Toronto office. Ross later joined Traders Finance Corporation Ltd. as an Internal Auditor. In 1953, Ross made the decision to move to Calgary and join the finance department at Home Oil Company Ltd. Here, he held several prominent positions, including President and Chief Executive Officer.
Outside of the workplace, Ross has also served on multiple committees including the CICA Accounting and Audit Research Committee, as well as the President of the Alberta Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute. He has also given his time to act as Honorary Life Director and Treasurer of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Ross is very proud of his family, which include two children and four grandchildren.
To top it off, Ross is celebrating another professional milestone year this year: he was granted Fellowship in 1988, so this year marks 30 years as a Fellow.
Congratulations to all Alberta CPAs celebrating career milestones this year: thank you for your many years of service and for being inspirations in your communities and to younger generations of CPAs.
